my name is david barnes. i am the art director for the band of Montreal. a few years ago i became slightly obsessed with painting over these sculptures i kept finding at flea markets and thrift stores all over America. they had been stripped of their purpose, stripped of their dignity. all i do is look at them with optimism and try and give them a second chance, a new lease on life. a chance to be cherished again. who wouldn't want that?
